Humidity Testing and Water Immersion Testing
Humidity testing provides a controlled accelerated corrosive environment to evaluate the relative corrosion resistance of the coating, substrate, or part itself. It is similar to salt spray testing, though without the salt component included. Parts or panels are placed inside a chamber and exposed continually for a specified time period, then evaluated for resistance to corrosion and/or blistering. Some common humidity standards and water immersion standards are listed below:
Humidity Exposure:
-
ASTM D1735 Standard Practice for Testing Water Resistance of Coatings Using Water Fog Apparatus
-
ASTM D2247 Standard Practice for Testing Water Resistance of Coatings in 100% Relative Humidity
-
ASTM D4585 Cleveland Condensing Humidity
-
Daimler Chrysler LP-463-PB-09-01 Condensing Humidity Resistance Test
-
General Motors GM4465P Water Fog Humidity Test

Water Immersion:
-
ASTM D870 Water Immersion
-
ASTM D810 Water Immersion
-
ASTM F870 Water Immersion
-
ASTM A967 Water Immersion
-
FLTM BI 104-01 Water Immersion
-
ISO 2812-2 Sea Water Immersion
Assured Testing Services maintains multiple cabinets for humidity testing, providing accommodations for various sizes of samples.
Parts are typically placed into exposure within 48 hours and test reports are usually generated within 24 hours of completion of the test.
